New Photographs

by

Brendan Nyhan

May 20 - August 31, 2021

opens with two untitled photographs, taken during the Summer of 2020, that reveal fragments of the wild, untamed, American landscape. Both pictures are part of the artist’s visceral response to the immediate lockdown of New York that culminated into a larger series titled I Can’t Stand Fences. (2020) After driving across the country to the West Coast of Southern California, Nyhan revisited the empty coastline, as well as empty and abandoned buildings, to create a new photographic series titled Gray Scale West. (2021) Throughout these 13 untitled images, disparate locations appear to forge a connection through the ocean and sun on one side and the monumental highway on the other, suggesting a new time and space for renewal.
