New Systems

focuses on the life of networks and the way they thrive before disintegrating, rebuilding and starting all over again. As a single, modular wall-installation that consists of 50 untitled panels, each measuring 8” x 10” - the elements on view in “New Systems” suggest an array of geometric abstract representations seen everyday such as bar-code patterns, Braille dots, industrial steel and tire tread, as well as telecommunication wiring. Different sequences take on unique, serial appearances while forms appear as quickly as they disappear. Along with all of the formal elements seen in Whitney’s representations, these paintings lean into each other and render a buzzing energy. While shapes connect and disconnect within a confined atmosphere, Rachael Whitney’s drawing technique is one that continuously moves throughout the long distance of time.
